The
Chequers is thought to date back to the late 1500's as a pub when it was
identified by a sign of a blue anchor outside. The name appears to have
changed from the 'Anchor' to the Chequers in 1794-5 when Peter Burrell took
over. Since then there have been a succession of landlords and landladys,
until in February 1991 following extensive renovation Josh and Kay Reid
moved into the Chequers. In July later that year the doors were opened.
Josh and Kay, who are both from Lancashire, previously ran a couple of pubs
in Buckinghamshire and so had plenty of experience to draw upon. |
